DIY Dice Tray

I’ve been looking to make my own dice tray for our Tabletop Game Nights and I finally found the perfect box. This wooden box is about 8 by 9 inches and it was dirt cheap from Daiso. If you’re familiar with Daiso you’ll know that nearly everything in the store is priced at $1.50. I also bought the green felt from Daiso for another $1.50 but it was way more felt than I needed. So overall I spent about $3 for what I’ve seen on Etsy.com go for $15 or more.

I’ve seen some How-To Guides stating you can use picture frames from Ikea but I think the ridges would be too low. The ridges on this box are about 1.5 inches. The dice rarely bounce out of this box.

You could also stain or lacquer the box for a more professional look.

Instructions

1. Purchase a wooden box from Daiso. I found it near the back of the store where the rest of the containers are. Purchase felt from Daiso or any craft store.

Trace the box onto felt. I used pencil for this.

2. Trace the shape of the box onto the felt. I used a pencil to trace the box. You could also measure the interior of the box and trace that onto the felt but I felt the box wasn’t necessarily equal on each side.

The borders of box are about a quarter of an inch thick. Trim it down slowly until it fits.

3. Remove the box and cut out the felt. The borders of the box are about 1/2 an inch thick. Slowly trim down the sides of the felt until you have a good fit. This is probably the most tedious part.

Glue the felt down. Get ready to feel like a boss when playing Descent.

4. Glue the felt to the bottom of the box. You can use regular white glue, just make sure to spread it evenly and don’t leave any puddles. Wait for a reasonable amount of time for the glue to dry. Enjoy!
